ABOUT THE SHOW:
The December 12th show is a perfect blend of Big Whiskey tracks performed for the first time acoustically; tried-and-true songs from Dave and Tim’s repertoire with a few surprises added to the mix. The show began with the jaunty Eh Hee followed by the crowd rousing Dancing Nancies. Perfect for the season, Christmas Song and Lying in the Hands of God are equally stirring. Grey Street and Tim’s rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir are also songs to take note of on the Live from Las Vegas setlist. The show closing Typical Situation followed by Two Step are also exceptional tracks on the release.

Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Big Whiskey has been hailed by Rolling Stone as the group’s “heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally,” which went on to note: “Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing.” Billboard, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised Big Whiskey as “its best album yet….Highlights include the funk-rock rave-up Shake Me, the stirring ballad In the Hands of God, the swampy rocker Alligator Pie (Cockadile), radio-friendly fare like Why I Am, which features playful horns over a solid rock riff and a hooky chorus, and Funny the Way It Is, which parlays a subtle intro into a soaring, syncopated anthem.”

08.29.2000 SPAC, Saratoga Springs, NY The summer of 2000 found DMB continuing to evolve; each band member was really “coming into their own”, showcasing their individual talents and strengths on stage. Butch Taylor joined DMB during the summer of 2000 and has been performing with Dave Matthews Band ever since! Although the SPAC show occurred towards the end of the summer tour, DMB managed to pull out some real surprises on stage that August evening.

DMB gained traction immediately with show opener The Stone and didn’t slow down until Grace is Gone, a new song introduced that summer. Digging A Ditch is also a song on the SPAC setlist which debuted during the 2000 summer tour. To the delight of every hardcore DMB fan in the house, noted rarity Minarets was performed. Lie In Our Graves was played and featured spectacular solos by Boyd and Butch. The band teased the first few notes of Too Much after Anyone Seen the Bridge but threw the crowd for a loop when they completely switched gears and launched into an incredible Ants Marching jam. #41 was performed with lots of momentum with LeRoi pulling out all the stops. Lastly, Daniel Lanois’ spirited song The Maker is also a highlight of the 2000 SPAC show.

It was a beautiful late summer evening in Atlanta, Georgia with a cloudless sky and a perfect temperature. Dave Matthews Band performed with absolute unrestrained energy at the Atlanta benefit show which raised more than $1 million to aid in the 53-acre expansion of the historic park.

Several songs will make their DVD debut on Live at Piedmont Park including The Dreaming Tree and new songs #27, Cornbread and Eh-Hee. An additional highlight includes the stop-time reworking of So Much To Say > Anyone Seen the Bridge >Too Much. DMB CREW NOTE ABOUT THE SHOWS

Not having played a show since October, DMB just pulled off a couple of amazing evenings in Vegas. Last night, Dave described a time many years ago when he worked in a bar where many musicians performed on a small stage in the window. He prepared a tape of songs he'd written and passed it on to Carter and LeRoi, alluding to the forming of the band. The tape included the song I'll Back You Up, which the band proceeded to play for the first time in years. The shows here saw the return of some of the best cover tunes the band has played, including The Maker, Down By The River, Time Of The Season and Sweet Caroline. Dave also sang the lyrics to Lanois' Still Water over the intro to Don't Drink The Water. A very cool moment.

An emotionally charged Seek Up set the mood for the evening at over 14 minutes in length. 2 CD set from 4.30.1996 at the Classic Amphitheatre in Richmond, VA. 4.30.1996 Classic Amphitheatre, Richmond, VA was the show that started the Crash tour. In addition to hearing many new songs for the first time, fans in attendance were the first to hear the new sound system which DMB had recently inherited from the Grateful Dead. This sound system helped to take DMB’s live show experience to the next level. The Richmond show was also the show that marks the introduction of multi-track recording on tour.

Old school fans of Two Step will hear the beginning of the dark side of the song while Jimi Thing fans are going to be completely blown away by the incredible, almost fifteen minute, jam.

The great thing about this show is that one can still hear the raw energy that the live show was known for, but can also start to hear the polish of a veteran band that is completely comfortable in their surroundings.

2 CD set from 8.27.00 at the Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford, CT. This was the third show in a three-night stand at the Meadows, a show that many fans have listed in their top 5 due to the choice set list and the energy with which the songs were played that summer evening.

The show began with an explosive Dancing Nancies, the first time since 1997 that Dancing Nancies was played as the opener. An almost twenty-minute version of Seek Up built the energy at the show before a perfect transition to Linus and Lucy/Pantala Naga Pampa, which led into a rapturous Rapunzel. The sweet melody of I’ll Back You Up came next, surprising the audience and giving them a first chance to catch a breath since the show started.

The energy in the venue climbed again as new song Busted Stuff was played followed by Recently. New songs, Raven, Grey Street, a tremendous version of Bartender and Grace is Gone made the rare set list even more diverse. Another surprise, Daniel Lanois’ beautifully written, The Maker was played flawlessly that evening. Carter’s drum solo and Dave’s performance during Say Goodbye brought everyone to their feet. The band jammed JTR next followed by a direct intro into Ants Marching. DMB finally ended a monumental show with a combination of rare songs as encores: The Stone and Drive In, Drive Out.
